For a smooth projective curve X of genus g, let SU(r) denote the moduli space of S-equivalence classes of vector bundles. A morphism Y -> SU(r) is by definition a geometric morphism, if it is induced by a family of vector bundles on Y x X. I'll show that dominant geometric morphisms have even degree at least 2g-4.
