We study homology groups on (possibly infinite) normal coverings of compact spaces, which are defined through squareintegrable chains. On the one hand, this L²-homology shares many of the properties of ordinary homology but on the other hand, it yields relevant information concerning the asymtotic geometry of the spaces involved.
